CURRENT MISSIONS

HURRICANE MELISSA RELIEF (Westmoreland & Trelawny)

Restoring Dignity. Rebuilding Lives. Reconnecting Hope.

Hurricane Melissa struck with a force that reshaped entire communities across Western Jamaica. Homes were torn apart, crops wiped out, and families left in shock as roofs disappeared overnight. One month later, many are still living under tarpaulins, bathing in rivers, and trying to piece together the remains of their homes.

Uplift East, led by Isha Bel, immediately mobilized three relief missions to support women, children, and the elderly in the worst-hit areas. What we witnessed has deepened our commitment to this cause.

Women We Met: Stories That Drive Us

Medea — Her house is completely gone. Not damaged. Gone. She stands strong, caring for her children with nothing but faith and community support to lean on.

Gigi — Though she lost her roof, she still travelled to Kingston to buy goods to return and help others worse off than her. Meeting her downtown has evolved into a meaningful friendship and collaboration of compassion.

Brandisha — Another young mother whose home suffered severe damage, struggling to rebuild while caring for small children.

These women represent countless others whose lives were uprooted.

What We Have Completed So Far

Three direct relief missions on the ground

Food packages, personal care kits, and sanitary supplies

Clean drinking water for communities with broken water lines

Emotional support for mothers, children, and the elderly

Water truck deliveries to areas washed out or cut off

Ongoing Needs

This is the stage where rebuilding must begin.

We are urgently working to provide:

3 community water tanks (400–650 gallons)

Roofing material – zinc sheets, plyboard, lumber

Basic reconstruction supplies

Water truck deliveries

Seedlings and small farm support for families restarting their crops

Care packages (from Amazon wish lists or Sampars Cash & Carry)

Support for children returning to school in January

Food packages can only take families so far.

A roof over their heads brings back safety, dignity, and stability.

We invite brothers, sisters, well-wishers,

and the diaspora to join this mission and help us restore hope to these communities.

Uplift East distributed digital packages to young people at risk of falling behind. This mission continues today in a sustained form.

Our ongoing goal:3 youths per avenue, every month. This ensures fairness and rotational support throughout the year.

We need partners to help keep this mission alive—data, tablets, and small stipends all make a difference.
